"I am a victim," Ryan Lanza, the 24-year-old brother of Newtown killer Adam Lanza, supposedly told the New York Post yesterday in a Facebook chat.
"I loss [sic] my mom and brother."
However, a spokesman for the family blames an imposter for hacking Ryan's Facebook page and says Ryan did not post the messages in this story.
In a Facebook photo tribute, Ryan Lanza appeared to have shared a smiling image of his younger brother, Adam Lanza, smiling. "R.I.P.," he wrote.
"I will miss you bro. I will always love you as long as I live."
Ryan's account also posted a picture of his mother, Nancy Lanza, 52. In it, she looks carefree as she sweeps curls away from her eyes and laughs.
"I miss you mom. I love you so much. You will be always in my heart," he wrote.
Whoever impersonated him on this page did a pretty convincing job.
Ryan Lanza, who once attended Sandy Hook Elementary School, the site of Adam's massacre, grieved on Facebook for his brother's youngest victims.
Or at least whomever was masquerading as Ryan Lanza did.
"You all will be truly be missed," he wrote. "God Bless."
Lanza has joined Facebook victim groups as well as groups that support him called "Support Ryan Lanza" and "Clear Ryan Lanza's Name."
A number of media outlets wrongly identified him as the shooter because his brother had been carrying his identification during his killing spree.
On Ryan's Facebook, one poster wrote that Adam Lanza deserved to "rot in hell" and was the "scum of the earth." Ryan Lanza responded sharply to the post:
"I am so tired of people blaming me for something my brother did. I love Adam, his [sic] my brother. But you have no right to call my brother names."
"He isn't here no more. Just let my brother rest in peace. Please. Respect that."
Lanza, who lives in Hoboken, N.J., appeared to have told the N.Y. Post that a Facebook "friend" who said his brother should "rot in hell" was a stranger.
"He is calling my brother a monster when he don't even know him," Lanza said.
Apparently this was all a hoax, though, like so much other "news" in this digital, social media-driven age; Lanza's family denies he said any of this.
