Info Post

The state of MIchigan recently became the latest state to open a racially centered museum, as they opened The Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia in Big Rapids.

According to curator David Pilgrim, the $1.3 billion gallery has the largest collection of racial antiques, ranging from an ashtray to a life-sized lynching tree. However, he does want it to be known that it's not "a shrine to racism", but "all about teaching."

Pilgrim was a sociology professor and is current vice president of diversity at Ferris State University, and he began collecting the items in the '70s. He amassed a 2,000 piece collection, which he donated to the university in 1996.
