David Duchovny has publically announced that a script for "The X-Files 3" is being written right. Even though the film has not been given the official green-light. He doesn't know if it'll get made or not seeing as the second film, "I Want To Believe" didn't do well with most critics and it didn't bring in much in the box office. But we'll see.
I would love to see another film. I loved the first film. The second was good, not amazing, but still good. The show's creator, Chris Carter said back in 2008 that he wants the third film to be based on the 2012 invasion that was mentioned in the show. He planned for a December 2012 release.
