Info Post
It's been publicly announced that the next "Star Trek" film will not be a direct sequel to the 2009 reboot, but will be a stand-alone film, like the new "Wolverine" film.
Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have said that they've "broken" the story for the sequel or trilogy, as originally planned. They're describing the new film as a type of "Empire Strikes Back" film/story.
No one knows if they will, after the stand-alone film, go back to the potential trilogy and make a direct sequel to the 2009 reboot.
